Pack Horse Librarians of Appalachia (Practitioner: High Cognitive)

Step into the remarkable story of the Pack Horse Librarians of Appalachia! Spellers will learn about these courageous women who, during the Great Depression, rode horses and mules across rugged Kentucky mountains to deliver books and literacy to isolated communities. The lesson covers their incredible journeys through treacherous trails, encounters with bears, and creative solutions like Moonlight Schools and makeshift library cards.
